The Shows for the U.K. Scuba Divers
Divers in the United Kingdom have two large shows each year – the London International Dive Show (LIDS) at ExCeL, and the Birmingham Dive Show (DIVE) at the NEC. DIVER, Britain's best-selling diving magazine, has been organizing these events for over 20 years. The event each attracts hundreds of exhibitors offering the latest diving holidays, training courses, and dive gear – on display and to buy – and is visited by thousands of experienced and aspiring divers from the UK, Europe and beyond.
This year the 2015 London International Dive Show takes place over the weekend of 14/15 February. It will be held at the same time and adjacent to: The Telegraph Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show, the Triathlon Show: London, The London Bike Show and the MCN Motorcycle Show. There will be direct access via cross-over points between the LIDS show hall and the Triathlon/Adventure-Travel/Bike halls, and the events will be promoted with reciprocal ticket offers.
The show has two seminar areas, the diver stage which is mostly general topics and the London stage which is mostly imaging, that will each have a show. Do not worry if two seminars you really want to see are at the same time, as the shows schedules are the same each day. In total 22 of the dive industries leaders in their individual fields will be giving 20 seminars each day. Additionally exhibitors will have their own stage for presentations, and seminars. Some of the exhibitors will also have restricted events for representatives.
The Underwater Photographer of the Year (UPY) competition is the brainchild of Alex Mustard, and on Saturday afternoon he presents the prizes to the winners of the inaugural event. Winning, highly commended and shortlisted Underwater Photographer of the Year entries will be on display in the PhotoZone near the London Stage. On Sunday afternoon Alex uses them as a starting point to discuss what it takes to produce a competition-winning image, and what he and his fellow judges looked for.
The three stages are situated among more than 175 exhibitors and a food court. Travel destinations are group together so if you are looking for a trip to the Caribbean, all the exhibitors are close together, the same for other destinations like the U.K. and Asia. The exhibit floor also has two pools. One is set up for a try scuba program and the other is set up as a try rebreathers. New this year is a free diving simulator.
